For 2008, the Anchorage FLL/JFLL regional was held at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. It was a huge competition that was split off into 5 separate buildings. We had teams from all over the state attending. Many from Anchorage, but also teams from Juneau and Kodiak.
All of Team 568 was on hand this year at the largest FLL regional in the world to both help with the massive regional and to show the kids what they can look forward to with FRC in high school. Many of our members spent 8 hours or more at the event, helping set-up the competition tables and logistics as well as judging and refereeing. Though the event was running behind, it was overall a great success. All the kids had fun, and so did those volunteering. Many of the members of Team 568 were surprised at just how much fun it was, how appreciative everyone was, and just how much the kids were able to accomplish. All the underclassmen of 568 who will be here next year most certainly plan to volunteer to help out with the event again.
We brought our 2006 Aim High bot with us to show the kids just what they build in the FIRST Robotics Competition. We demonstrated what it could do, and gave them a basic run-down of the game and FRC. We also turned the bot loose to try to shoot some balls into the basketball hoops in the arena, which the kids just ate up. The delight on their faces was very apparent.
