Week 3 PDF Print E-mail

Week 3 was a week of fairly large strides for the team. A lot of work got done for all sub-teams of 568.

Drive Train/Chassis Team:    This week, we were able get the bot ready to test. We got a semi-final mount for the motor completed, and mounted a potentiometer so that that programmers could begin programming a proper control system.

Programming/Electrical Team:    This week, we got a basic, prototype electronics board all set up and running. We also got the programming of the bot done for our experimental car-steer drivetrain. Currently, we're just waiting for the drivetrain guys to get the steering mechanisms completed so that we can test out the bot and debug and perfect our code.

Arm/Lift Team:    As of week 3, we have two ideas for an arm. A poker to simply knock the ball off at the begining, and a forklift type of lift mechanism that will be capable of 9' of lift.
The poker: the prototype has been created with a simple bosch and nuematic design. This is design is intended to simply poke the ball of the rack for some extra points in the hybrid period. We are currently designing it in inventor.
The lift: We actually have two designs for the lift itself. One consists of a design very much like a forklift that is composed of a dual-stage c-channel set-up.
The other design consisits of 20mm bosch that slides in and out of square aluminum tubing. It will be structured much like the forklift type set-up with the exception that this design will only need 1 stage. It is however likely to be more unstable than the other forklift design.

Animation/CAD Team:    We mostly finished the town and we have imported the cyborg snowman in it. The robot and the nano bots are almost done. We have been working on the motion script which is a story broad on the 3DsMAX that helps us to make the movie right and on time.

Below is a video of us testing out the steering system while "under weight" and under "human control."
