About Team 568:

Team 568

FIRST Robotics Team 568, Nerds of the North resides at A.J. Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska. We also have students from Service High School and South High School in Anchorage, who are able to put aside fierce school sports rivalries, and come together to participate in FIRST.

Team 568's rookie year was in 2001 at the Silicon Valley regional. We have about 20 students who actively participate on the team and we will be attending the San Diego regional in 2008.

Our robot is named Absolute Zero to reflect our cold Alaskan heritage which has presented it's fair share challenges for being a FIRST team, which is why our team motto is "Adapt, Migrate, or Die."

Perhaps the hardest challenges are the weather, and getting to the FIRST events. We have to fly to the events because otherwise, it would be approximately a 3000 mile drive to California. Because of this, this presents additional monetary costs and a challenge to just get our tools to the event.

All of our members are very excited to be participating in such a unique and fun program. FIRST has changed all of our lives one way or another, and has shown many of us that if we put our minds to it, we can achieve anything. We are all looking forward to the 2008 San Diego Regional, including many of the new members (and returning member) we pulled in for the 2008 season.

Our Mission:

To be the best team we can be, teach members about FIRST and new technologies, be actively involved in the community, and to inspire others.

Awards:

In 2005 we took home the San Jose Regional Woodie Flowers award, and we took home the Judge's Award Day 2 at the Davis-Sacremento Regional in 2006. In 2007, we won the Judges' Award at the San Jose regional for our team dynamics and our research into fuel cells.
